Through melting, welding, burning, fusing and firing, we're turning up the heat on creativity in this issue. Ceramics, glass and resin jewellery are just some of the glistening results.
Shiny things always cat our eye. If we happen upon a polished piece of seaglass washed up on the beach or the glint of a copper penny lost on the sidewalk, we'll reach down to pick up these tiny treasures. Their sparkle lends the debris a sheen of perfection and perceived value when in fact one is trash and the other has no real currency.
And yet, our response to these seemingly inconsequential little things is significant. We've noticed the overlooked and contemplated the discarded. What if we paid more attention to other things in this way? What other valuables might be we discover?
A special thank you goes to Ferkó Goldinger and the crew at Appleton Coated for providing the beautiful Utopia U2:XG Gloss paper that enhances the content on 32 pages within this issue. Reader submissions about glossy things really pop on the gloss coated paper—and the blacks are deep and rich, too. The different paper stocks also offer a nice tactile experience that goes with the theme.
